Mali has appointed new government ministers a few days after the appointment of a new Prime Minister by Boubakar Keita.
At least ten new ministers have been appointed and there are also 8 female ministers among the total 36.
Among the changes was the sacking of the country’s health minister which did not come as as surprise to many following a month long strike action that has paralysed Mali’s health sector.
But the changing of the interior minister Mohamed Ag Arlaf who was engaged in installing interim officials in Mali came as a surprise to many. Mohamed Ag has now been appointed as minister of Education.
Communication and defense ministers have also been changed.
Abdel Karim Konaté hailed as the best perfomer in government is the new communication minister.
While those who head ministries in charge of foreign Affairs and Security have been maintained.
Other major departures are Ousmane Koné and Mahamane Bany who acted as ministers of Environment and Employment respectively.
